How to Measure Ring Size at Home

The most common reason women in Pakistan do not order a ring online is simple: they do not know their size and do not want to guess. Jewellers here rarely tell you your number, and the sizing chart on most websites assumes you own a ring sizer.

You do not need one. Two methods, five minutes, no special equipment.

Method 1: Measure a ring you already own (most accurate)

If you have a ring that fits the finger you are buying for, this is the reliable method.

Place the ring on a ruler with millimetre markings
Measure straight across the inside of the band, edge to edge, at the widest point
That number is your inside diameter in millimetres
Match it to the chart below

Method 2: The paper strip method

For when you have no ring to measure.

Cut a strip of paper about 5mm wide and 10cm long — paper, not string, which stretches
Wrap it around the base of the finger, snug but not tight
Mark where the end overlaps
Lay it flat and measure to the mark in millimetres — that is your circumference
Match it to the middle column above

Critical check: the strip must be able to slide over your knuckle. If your knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of your finger, size up — a ring that fits the base but will not pass the knuckle is useless.

When to measure matters more than people realise

Finger size fluctuates by up to a full size across a day:

Fingers are smallest in the morning and in cold weather
Largest in the evening, in heat, and after salty food
Pakistani summers make a real difference — a ring measured in January can feel tight in June

Best practice: measure at the end of the day, at normal room temperature, and measure twice on different days.

Where band width changes things
