How to Spot a Low-Quality Hair Accessory When Buying Online in Pakistan

Two claw clips can look identical in a photo and cost the same, and one will last three years while the other stops closing in a fortnight. Online, you cannot pick either of them up. So you have to read the listing instead.

Here is what actually separates them, and what to check before you order.

The single biggest tell: the hinge

A claw clip lives or dies on its spring. There are two kinds:

• Metal spring — a coiled wire at the pivot. Holds tension for years.
• Moulded plastic hinge — the two halves flex against each other. Fatigues, then stops closing. Usually within weeks on thick hair.

In listing photos, look for a visible metal coil where the two halves meet. If every photo of a clip is shot closed, from the front, at a flattering angle — there is often a reason.

Six checks before you order

1. Is the size stated?

A seller who tells you the size is a seller who expects you to be satisfied. Vague descriptions like "large" with no measurement usually mean smaller than you are picturing. This is the most common reason women in Pakistan are disappointed by an online hair accessory order — not quality, size.

2. Are the teeth interlocking?

4. Painted or solid colour?

5. What does the elastic join look like?

On scrunchies and hair ties, check the join. A metal crimp will catch hair every single time you take it off. Sewn or knotted joins do not.

6. Are there real photos, or only renders?

Studio renders and stock images tell you nothing about finish. Listings with actual product photography — including from angles that are not flattering — are a good sign.

Price is a weak signal, but not a useless one

Below roughly Rs. 150 for a full-size claw clip in Pakistan, something has been cut — usually the spring. Above Rs. 500, you are mostly paying for design and finish rather than better holding power.
